Under 9's

Llanharan 10 v Cowbridge 6

On a fresh Sunday morning the young black and Blues (U9's) were home against Cowbridge. After no games or training for two weeks due to the weather the boys were all fired up to play. The team which included Aidan, Ajay, Alex, Ben, Cohen, Dan, Ieuan T, Kian H, Kian W, Louis, Luke, Marley, Regan and Steffan broke down Cowbridge's well organised defensive line. The pressure the boys applied resulted in a number of turn over balls. The skills and supportive play the boys demonstrated as well as their off loading resulted in excellent tries which were scored by Cohen, Dan, Ieaun T, Kian W, Louis, Luke, Marley and Regan (3), defender of the week went to Ben. The final score line was 10 - 6 to Llanharan. Thanks to Cowbridge for the friendly spirit in which the game was played and to all our parents and grandparents for your continued support. We would also like to give a special thank you to Tom our student who was the ref.

The Under 7s had a big day out at  TAGFEST in Swansea, which was a 50 team tournament between U7s and U8 teams from all over the Blues and Ospreys regions. Several current and former players, including Gavin Henson, were in attendance to see the games. Participation and enjoyment were the main aims of the day and safe to say the event was a success on both counts. Due to the conditions, the venue was moved at the last minute to a 5 a side football complex on 3G pitches, and this only served to improve the day. Conditions were terrible and never have the words from the club song "Cheer us on through the wind and rain" been more apt! Still, the boys managed to get 4 games in before the weather finally won out.

Game results:
Brecon U8s - 6 Llanharan U7s - 3
Tries - Scott 3...
A tough first game, with a scheduling "error" meaning we were up against some very big boys! The boys stuck at it and gave the Brecon team the only close game they had all day. Special mention to Dylan who ran and tagged well in his first game for the team.
Maesteg Quins U7s - 3 Llanharan U7s - 7
Tries - Scott 1, Aston 2, Evan 2, Lewis 1, Cody 1
A good win for the boys, with some excellent running rugby, passing and tagging. Also a good shape to our defensive line helped!
Gorseinon U7s - 2 Llanharan U7s 5
Tries Scott 1, Lewis 1, Cody 1, Harry 1, Devon 1
By now the heavens had really opened and it made tagging and handling difficult. Again good running and keeping hold of the ball saw the boys home.
Gwernyfed U7s - 5 Llanharan U7s - 6
Tries Scott 2, Ashton 1, Evan 2, Lewis 1
Despite the deterioration in conditions (one of the other matches was abandoned due to Sleet!) the boys had their closest match of the day against a very evenly matched Gwernyfed side. Tagging was difficult due to cold hands, but both teams really had a good go at it. A real ding dong game finished with Llanharan getting the winning score with the last play of the game!

A big thanks to the boys for playing so well, and the parents for enduring the rain! Special thanks to Shaun Williams and David Benjamin for helping with the boys on the field.

Following this, the boys attended the Ospreys Vs Blues game at the Liberty stadium. Not saying the game was dull, but the Pros certainly could have learnt a few lessons about running rugby from our boys!

U7’S v ABERCWMBOI

The U7’s and supporters travelled to Abercwmboi on a cold and frosty Sunday morning. It was agreed with the home team to play 3 matches to give all players from both teams a good run out.

Game 1

Under the snow topped mountains of the Cynon valley the young Black and Blues got away to a fine start, even though there were a few cold hands the boys did not hang around. As always they defended like demons and managed to push the home team back on several occasions. In between their great defensive work the team made the most of every opportunity and by half time were 4-nil up. The attacks continued after the break where we were able to score 4 more, resulting in an 8 nil win. Great work boys!

Game 2

After a quick team talk and a sip of water the young dairymen carried on in the same vein. Once again and throughout the mornings play, the boys moved the ball around in a slick manner, and showed they meant business! During this game the young home team fought back and scored some nice tries themselves, the game finishing in a 5 all draw.

Game 3

The final game was once again played at a frantic pace, but in high spirits. Although the home team had scraped a draw earlier on, it was time to get back to winning ways. The team did not disappoint, with some great defensive team work from all the boys mixed up with the desire to win, we shone through to a 3 – 1 victory.

The team played with great commitment and enthusiasm, especially for one another and once again should be very proud of themselves. Great team work boys!

Also, huge thanks to coaches, parents and supporters for your continued help and support.

U7’S HAVE FUN IN THE SUN!

U7’S v FAIRWATER & LLANDAFF NORTH

The U7’s and supporters turned up at Hayley Park to play a round robin with home team Llandaff North and Fairwater.

The young black and blues started the morning with a fixture against Fairwater. This was to turn out to be one of our toughest fixtures of the season so far! The U7’s were more than up for the challenge and were able to score two tries through Evan and Ashton. In a game where defence and tagging was paramount the victory, was a great start to the morning’s games.

Second up was a fixture against the home team Llandaff North, the young Black and Blues continued in the same vain as the first game where Evan was able on two occasions to score some fantastic tries. This cemented our continued performance, well done Evan! Also during this game a big mention for Owen Nottage for his great defensive work where he tagged the opposition like a demon. Well done!

Next up was Llandaff North again, who happened to have a big squad. The young Black and blues didn’t have that many players today, but what happened next showed the opposition that we were still hungry to keep playing Gabe 2, Ashton 2, Evan 2, and Cody 1 tries. We scored some brilliant tries, where the boys supported and ran some great lines to keep the home team guessing where we were going to pop up next. Big well done to Cody Edward, who scored his first try today, great effort Cody!

As all the teams were having such a great time in the sunshine, we played Fairwater again. Once again the boys played really well, but were getting tired towards the end, but still we kept tagging and scoring, and deservedly got a draw form the game. The boys kept battling hard to the end and defensively were on fire. A mention to Sam Teiser, for his first try of the season, well done Sam!

The boys played with great commitment and enthusiasm, and once again should be very proud of themselves. Great work team!

Also, huge thanks to coaches, parents and supporters for your continued help and support.

The young black & blues which included Ajay, Alex,Ben,Cohen,Dan,Ieuan T Ioan,Kian H, Kian W, Louis,Luke,Marley,Regan,Steffan,Taylor and Thomas were defensively well organised, their off-loading and supportive play was exceptional the effort the boys are putting in as a team is great. The boys were extremely focused and broke down the defence of Llantwit major putting in some hard tackles which resulted in a number of turnover balls. All credit to the team their hard work and support for each other is paying off as they are all developing their skills and enjoying the sport.
