Juniors and Mini

Monday, October 12, 2015 - 20:59

After a very positive start to the season the under 8's were once again blessed with a good turnout for ourr game at Ystrad Rhondda.

We were able to field 2 separate sides and Ystrad kindly allowed us to play 2 games allowing all our children to play a full match.

Both teams must of been watching Fiji (or Japan) in the world cup with some exciting rugby being played. Some great passing, switch moves and good old up-the-jumper rugby being played by both teams.

For the record Llanharan won both games 6-5 & 3-2 respectively. But scores are unimportant as both teams played with smiles on their faces and just had fun!

YSTRAD RHONDDA 2 v U7’s 6

We arrived at Ystrad Rhondda in good spirits, looking to play some good rugby and both sides did not disappoint!
The U7’s very quickly got in the swing of the game by scoring some quick tries, created by good support play. This caught the home side by surprise and gifted Devon a hat trick!
Ystrad also moved the ball around in a Baa Baas style, but found their attacks thwarted by some great defensive work by the young Black and Blues.
The boys played with great commitment and enthusiasm, and once again should be very proud of themselves. Great work team!
Also, a huge thanks to coaches, parents and supporters for your continued help and support.
Try scores- Harry Richardson, Devon Austin, Ashton Gill and Evan Benjamin.

TREHERBERT 1 v U7’S 4

We arrived in Treherbert looking to emulate the heroics from the world cup the evening before. In order for the game to take place some of our boys had to play for the home side. A big thankyou to the boys who volunteered to play for Treherbert U7’s. Well done boys!
On a sunny Sunday morning, both sides looked to play open running rugby, and the game was played at a frantic pace, helped along by some open refereeing. Once again the u7’s tagged with great commitment and defensively kept Treherbert at bay.
The attacking prowess of the team was evident again, with some great run’s, and inter passing creating some flashy tries from long range.
The boys played with great commitment and enthusiasm, and once again should be very proud of themselves. Great work team!
Also, a huge thanks to coaches, parents and supporters for your continued help and support.
Try scores- Harry Richardson, Lewis Williams, Scott Anderson and our very own Evan Benjamin Who scored for the opposition.

Llanharan Under 11 v St. Peter's Under 11
(Away)

St Peters as expected fielded a very strong attacking team and the Junior Black n Blues put up a tremendous defensive performance to hold the host's up during the first half. Llanharan showed a lot of guts but due to low attendance and injury in the team, St Peters did come back during the second half to eventually win the game 7 - 2.
Overall a very strong performance from Llanharan with some lovely phases from the team and tries coming from our Winger, Rhys Thomas and our Outside Half, Noah Newman.

Well done and keep up the hard work and effort!

P.S we are currently recruiting new players. All welcome! Tuesday at the Welfare Ground 18:00.

U7’S AT MAESTEG CELTIC TOURNAMENT.

Although we arrived at the tournament with six players, we knew we were in for a tough day and were expecting some tricky games. With a great team effort, coupled with good organisation, we soon became the team to beat.

The boys played with great passion and commitment, and our tagging of the opposition sides was exceptional, and heralded some praise from other teams. In many low scoring games, we also scored some fantastic tries!

By the end of the day we had won 3 and lost one. Amongst the wins was the beating of the U7’s champions Kenfig Hill.

Huge praise to the boys, especially as other sides had much bigger squads than us. They showed confidence, commitment and great enthusiasm. Great work team!

Also, a huge thanks to coaches, parents and supporters for your continued help and support.

Team- Harry Richardson, Codey Edwards, Ashton Gill, Gabe McCallum, Evan Benjamin and Devon Austin.

Another excellent morning of rugby at the Maesteg Celtic tournament.

Llanharan 2 v Bryncethin 3

What an excellent game to start a well organised tournament. The young black & blues did extremely well against a well organised bryncethin team. A special mention has to be made for Kian Wilson who stepped up and played for Bryncethin as they didn't have enough players. Well done Kian, the Bryncethin coaches appreciated you playing for them. This was a very close game which was very physical. We had a couple of injuries during the game with Ben, Cohen and Louis, I'm pleased to say that both boys quickly recovered and continued playing through the tournament, the Llanharan scorers were Cohen and Ieuan T.

Kenfig Hill 5 v Llanharan 6

Another close game both teams defended really well and were organised, the young black & blues dug deep and remained composed to steal the game. The scorers were Dan 3, Luke, and Regan 2,

Tondu 4 v Llanharan 0
This was another physical game, the boys did excellent giving their all. Tondu kept putting the pressure on pushing forward and scoring 4 tries. This was a hard game resulting in an injury to the team with Regan coming off in the first half.

Maesteg Celtic 3 v Llanharan 4

On to the final game of the day were we played the host team, the game was end to end with some good tackles by both teams and the black & blues coming out on top with tries scored by Ieuan T 2, luke, and Steffan.

A fitting end to a good morning of rugby, a superb effort by all the boys again today. We are immensely proud of the team, their effort, determination and strength of character is second to none.  Thanks to all the parents and grandparents for you continued support and the Maesteg Celtic for inviting us.

We were in a fortunate position today to be able to field 2 teams and attend 2 different tournaments.

Although arriving at the Maesteg tournament with only 6 players, unfortuantly one of the boys was ill, thoughts were that we would struggle. But the team proved the doubters wrong and dug deep and finished the day undefeated, winning 2 and drawing 2, just missing out on a semi final place. Everyone played with a smile on their face and worked hard for each other.

Team at Maesteg: Tom Thatcher, Owen Poole, Rhodri Dyke, Morgan Williams, Eleri Williams and Alfie Beazer.

We managed to go one better at the Pontyclun tournament finishing as runners up. After starting well and winning our first 3 games we played the hosts Pontyclun in our final pool match, they needed a win, we needed to at least draw. The boys dug deep, coming back from 3-1 and 4-2 to eventually draw the match 4-4. We now had Cowbridge in the final! Both teams contributed to a very entertaining final, Cowbridge scored the first try and we replied almost immediately with a try of our own, and this is how the match stayed with both sides defending their lines at all costs. It wasn’t until the very last seconds of the game that Cowbridge managed to break away and with some very good passing score in the corner. The boys were obviously disappointed to lose but were all smiling again once they were presented with their winners medals and runners up trophy. Team at Pontyclun: Bleddyn Poole, Alfie Jones, Alfie Cogbill, Dewi Fear, Cameron Williams, Jesse Barnes and Bryn Lloyd-Makkuart.

A great day all round.

An awesome effort from the boys again today.  The boys were well organised and composed playing their first home game of the season, against the sports, who played an attacking game of rugby. The boys defended well putting in hard tackles causing a few turn over balls.  The sports came back to win the game scoring 11 tries to 7. Tries for the young black and blues were scored by Ieuan Thomas (3), Kian Wilson, Luke Evans, Regan Halse and Steffan Jones. It's great to see the boys confidence growing and them developing on the skills they have learnt over the last few seasons. Their support for each other is second to none and some of the boys took some hard tackles today and just got back on and played which shows great determination and character. Defender of the week went to Ben William. Thanks again to all that came to support the team and to Bridgend sports for the friendly manor in which the game was played.
