Glen is winner of top Award - 13/06/2010
Scrum half Glen Holloway collected the prestigious Player of the Year award at Saturday night's annual presentation dinner. He received his trophy from former Lion and current S4C pundit Brynmor Williams. Glen joined us from Glamorgan Wanderers last summer and was the catalyst fort the attacking play that brought 91 league tries. Coach Dennis John particularly highlighted the match at Caerphilly where we were down to 13 men and in danger of a shock defeat when the Llantrisant product make a daring break from his own line that brought a try the other end and ensured victory. Other First Xv awards were: Most Promising (Joint award): Tight head prop Aled Richards, another summer import who soon made the number 3 shirt his own. Left wing Paul Adams, again a Caerphilly signing who topped the try scorers list with an impressive 20 touchdowns. Most Improved Player: Outside half Codey Rees, also from the Castlemen who amassed a huge total of 303 points. Supporters Player of the Year and Club Person of the Year: Nathan Huish, hooker, whose dynamic play was always a headache for the opposition but whose contribution off the field was immense, in particular the organisation of a very successful club mystery tour involving 90 players and supporters. Mog Davey’s President’s Award and special grog: Gareth Edwards, who completed a record seven seasons as captain , and who was described by Dennis John as a decision maker and leader who stood out on the field especially when the going was tough. Second XV awards: Player of the Year (joint award): Utility forward and skipper Paul Winter and outside half Lloyd Thomas. Youth awards: Player of the Year Skipper Zach O’Driscoll Players Player: Back row man Scott Malone. Most Improved: Scrum half Ross Pritchard. Most Promising: Outside half Scott Jones Paul Songhurst collected the Pontyclun Sevens cup while Zach O’Driscoll received the Taff Rhondda Merit Cup. Also during the ceremony Brynmor Williams presented Harley Thomson with his Wales under 18 cap while Harley handed his Wales shirts to club President Adrian Tattersall. Club caps for over 400 games: Arwel Davies a prominent senior squad member since his Youth days and Lee Butler a stalwart of the Second XV, awards that the chairman said Were what the club was all about. The guest speaker was former Cardiff, Swansea and Newport scrum half Brynmor Williams who played in three tests against New Zealand for the Lions in 1977. He was capped twice for Wales but was on the bench for 28 internationals, such was the prominence of Gareth Edwards. Guests welcomed by the chairman, who compered the show, were WRU representative Roy Giddings, Chairman of Llanharan Community Council Barry Stephens and his wife, Borough Councillor Roger Turner, main sponsor Bob James and his wife from Excel Power Construction and regional accounts manager of Coors brewery, Colin Smith.
