JUSTIN IS ENCOURAGED - 19/07/2010
Senior training is now underway, although understandably at this time of the summer many players are unavailable. However, new skipper Justin Jones was still upbeat about things in general: “I was encouraged by the new faces that were on the paddock and also the skill and effort that was put in throughout, it was refreshing.” he said. “Hopefully over the coming few weeks the numbers will increase and slowly the squad for the coming season will take shape. “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Scott Malone on the captaincy of the Youth, knowing Scott he will lead from the front and hopefully we'll see him involved with the first team at sometime during the season. “Looking at the fixtures for the beginning of the season, I don’t think we could get a tougher draw. Ebbw Vale have fallen from grace and the word on the grapevine is that they have made some significant signings this year which shows their intentions of being promoted straight back into the premiership. “Saying that I believe that we have a strong squad and will be able to compete with whatever they throw at us. (and I’d much rather be going Eugene Cross Park at this time of year rather than in the depth of winter). “I always like to take one game at a time but on viewing our second fixture, Newbridge, it’ll be another big game. Over the last two or three years Newbridge have been the most competitive and consistent side in the league, they always have a strong squad and no doubt will be competitive again this year. Again this will be a tough encounter but I feel that we prepare and play better when the opposition is of a high standard so I do look forward to both these games.”
