Clean Bill of Health, reports Coach - 05/02/2012
We resume league action on Saturday when we visit neighbours Bridgend Athletic at Newbridge Fields. Back in October our boys were 22-10 home winners thanks to tries from Sam Pick (2) and Luke James, Chris Williams as usual doing the kicking. Youth product Sam was one of four props unavailable for selection two weeks ago when the cup game against Newbridge had to be played with uncontested scrums, our team consequently suffering the sanction of not being allowed replacements, a factor in the heavy 45-14 defeat. Head coach Mathew Lloyd said he hoped he would never experience such a situation again and has declared “a clean bill of health” for Saturday. It is also hoped influential centre and skipper Dai Atkins will be back having missed the last two matches because of injury and work commitments, while centre/fullback Geraint Walsh, home from New Zealand, might also be available . The Athletic may be bottom of the league, but they are determined to claim our scalp for the first time, and with ourselves wanting to end a run of three defeats, it’ll be quite a battle.
Weekend Freeze - 03/02/2012
Both games have had to be called off this weekend. After a heavy frost and no sign of any improvement in the next 24 hours we have reluctantly been forced to call off both home fixtures this weekend. Remember though that you can still watch live rugby on our BIG screen with our Famous Can Bar. See you all there Saturday and Sunday.
Weekend Fixtures - 31/01/2012
With our first fifteen having a week off the spotlight falls on our seconds and youth this weekend both of whom have home fixtures. Our seconds will be looking to put last weeks narrow defeat behind them with a home East District Cup fixture on the Dairy against old foes UWIC whilst our youth will be entertaining Treherbert on the Welfare. Both games will be kicking off at 2.00pm to give both players and supporters time to settle down in the hall to watch the Scotland - England international (5.00pm) on our BIG screen. Remember also our famous can bar will be open from 4.00 pm Saturday afternoon until the end of the international and also Sunday afternoon when Wales take on Ireland. It promises to be a hectic weekend!!

Great win for Youth, but unopposed scrums affect the rest - 28/01/2012
It was a strange old game at the Dairy with Newbridge winning the Swalec cup game 45-14. The match started with Llanharan conceding unopposed scrums, the WRU rules sanction being, no replacements. Clearly, with seven subs available to the away team they were going to enjoy an advantage second half, but it was disappointing the way we seemed to have lost the game in the opening half with some ineffective defence, despite the fact that the two sides were on a level playing field, to use the vernacular. The forwards tried hard, but there were many gaps behind and Newbridge ran in seven tries despite some valiant effort. Justin Benfield and Nathan Huish scored our tries with Chris Williams converting. It was 26-7 at half time. Our Seconds seemed to suffer the same malaise of self belief as the knock on effect meant that they also started with uncontested scrums, but they got their act together to actually lead 31-29 near the end despite losing 36-31 and trailing 24-7 at half time. Tries came from Nicky Bees 2, John Cater and John Howe with Harley Thomson demonstrating his allegiance to our club by putting over four cons and a pen coming on from the bench. The Youth won their East District cup game at home to St Peters by 3-0, impressive number ten Scott Jones landing the vital kick as the team showed confidence in themselves. More tomorrow.
